Kareena Kapoor is perhaps the only one who can claim to have work with all leading Khans of the Hindi film industry; from Salman to Shahrukh, from Aamir to her own beau Saif. This time she is coming on screen with Imran Khan in Karan Johar’s upcoming film Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. The film will see a Valentine’s Day 2012 release by Dharma Productions and UTV Motion Pictures.
The two actors are coming together for the first time in Karan’s film. Why Karan chose Kareena opposite Imran? “Primary reason for casting Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan together was obvious: here were two good-looking actors who would make a great-looking couple on screen. It was a casting coup because Imran was the youngest Khan yet to serenade Kareena Kapoor, and their pairing did get the trade to sit up and take notice. Of course, after a month-long schedule in Las Vegas, director Shakun Batra realised that these two not only looked good together, they even shared terrific chemistry,” a tabloid quotes.
While unveiling the first promo of the film Karan was too excited. He says, “EMAET is the quintessential date film. Shakun has treated it like a slice of life film, but it is a romantic comedy all the way. Kareena and Imran play Rihaana and Rahul – two diametrically opposite people – who find themselves in a common destination and go on to make the most of it.”
The film is meant for youth. The words used in promos of the film like ‘sex’ and ‘bum’ surely have youth appeal to it. Moreover the sensational chemistry of the two actors is reflected clearly on screen. Before the launch of promo, Imran confessed that in his three years in Bollywood, the one actress he has deeply admired is Kareena. “Shakun and I knew that we could make EMAET only with her,” he says.
Is there a need to say that Kareena is flattered with all the admiration and attention she is receiving. “My ‘Khan’tastic journey continues. Imran is the youngest Khan I have worked with, and also the sweetest,” says an elated Kareena.
“Dharma’s slate for 2012 is an eclectic mix. We have the intense Agneepath coming out on January 26, and three weeks later we have the fun EMAET,” tells Karan.
Is he liking the work of the young director Shakun? “Shakun comes from good stock, having assisted on films like Rock On!! and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. His entire team – including his writers – is so young that the vibe they’ve brought to the film is very infectious,” informs Karan.
